New Gateway at the Green meets “Deepest Affordability Needs”

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Gateway at the Green, the new all-affordable 72-unit apartment community on Webb Road, officially opened today -- not only complete but also fully leased.

“We knew this would be a really convenient workforce location,” said Bryan Brown, Greenville Housing Fund’s President and CEO. , of the complex located near the many businesses on Mall Connector, Congaree, and Woodruff Roads, as well as close to the Patewood medical campuses and the new City of Greenville, Greenville County, and State of South Carolina public services cluster around the corner on Halton Road.

It’s not just the location attracting new residents: all units at Gateway at the Green are affordable for families and households earning less than 60% of area median income (AMI). Thirteen units are reserved to support renters earning between 20-30% AMI, meaning a working single person earning roughly $13,500 annually would be able to afford a one-bedroom apartment at Gateway at the Green.

“Greenville Housing Fund works to make highly intentional and strategic investments targeted to meet the deepest affordability needs in our community. This partnership with The Gateway Companies of Birmingham, Alabama (the primary developer), SC Housing, and the City of Greenville illustrates exactly the kind of reach we hope to achieve to serve working families and individuals, even those earning minimum wage,” Brown said . “And Gateway at the Green is also just a really beautiful, well-designed site.”

Gateway at the Green’s three-story buildings contain a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments set around plentiful parking in a woodsy setting with attractive, naturalized landscaping. The development meets high energy-efficiency and sustainable development standards, including the use of Energy Star appliances and achievement of EarthCraft MultiFamily Certification, a green-building certification program developed by the Southface Institute and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association. The central clubhouse offers multiple amenities for residents, including a playground, laundry facilities, a computer lab, a fitness room, a community gathering space, and the leasing office. GreenLink Transit connections are also nearby.

Veretta Lindsay, a member of GHF’s Board of Directors, opened her remarks to the gathered elected officials, residents, and development partners by citing a quote from Coretta Scott King.

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actors of its members,” she said. “and I speak for all residents when I say welcome to my happy place, here at Gateway at the Green!”
