Greenville County Historical Society announces Lecture Series schedule

GREENVILLE, SC – The history of Furman University, tales from the Greenville Memorial Auditorium and what Greenville looked like 10,000 years ago are among the topics for the Greenville County Historical Society’s 2026-27 Lecture Series.

The Lecture Series brings together respected historians to speak on key topics that helped shaped Greenville. Each event is held on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Downtown Presbyterian, 435 W. Washington Street. Cost is $15 for non-Society members. Free for Society members.

Events for this year include:

·       September 16: Courtney Tollison Hartness, 200 years of Furman University

·       October 21: John Nolan, Greenville Artifacts from the 1800s

·       November 18: Robert Benedict, Vardry McBee’s Children and Grandchildren: Stories of Preservation, Tragedy, and How His Descendants Shaped Postbellum Greenville

·       December 16: Tevin Smith, History of Greenville’s Five Black High Schools

·       January 20: Jim Hammond, People who lived here 10,000 years ago

·       February 17: Dora Impson, The Working Benevolent Society

·       March 17: Joe Smith, Communities in Greenville

·       April 21: Mike Chibbaro, Greenville Memorial Auditorium

·       May 19: John Zimmerman, A.I. Images
