Film submissions start today for Reedy Reels: The Greenville Film Festival

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Have the next great film?

The Piedmont Natural Gas Presents Reedy Reels: The Greenville Festival wants to see it. Film submissions start Monday, May 1, 2023, via FilmFreeway or the festival website, www.reedyreels.com for the festival slated for March 22 to 24, 2024 at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre.

Categories include Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Intermediate Film, Best Documentary Film, Best College Student Film, Best High School Student Film, Best South Carolina Upstate Film, Best Southeast Regional Film, Best Comedy Film, Best Animation Film, People’s Choice Film, Reedy Reels Film of Distinction. There will be an early bird ticket special from May 1 through June 15 for $35. The student early bird entry fee is $20. The costs will be $40 and $25 after June 15 through October 31. There is an enhanced focus on local and student films for the 2024 show.

In 2023, 143 films were submitted and an 11-person review panel watched all of them to get to 50 films that were shown at the South Carolina Children’s Theatre. Reedy Reels plans to expand that number to 60 this year. The portal for entering films will close on January 15, 2024.

More than 300 films have been shown over the past eight festivals ranging from shorts to student films to animated movies to full-lengthen features, and a little bit of everything in between, said Matt Foster, one of the founders of Reedy Reels. Tickets to the three-day festival sold out in advance in 2023.

“Reedy Reels has grown into one of the Upstate’s leading festivals and one of its most unique since it focuses on independent films,” Foster said. “We are always looking to create more for our audience to ensure they enjoy the festival.”
